Alton with Four Marks and  Medstead Rotary Clubs Young Musicians Contest

Two local Rotary Clubs have launched a competition to find the most talented young musicians in the area, the winner of the first contest is Zofeyah Aspinwall who is a pupil at Amery Hill School.

Zofeyah aged 15, is a pianist - her sister Rebekah, 17, from Alton Colleege also entered the competition playing the guitar, both live in Farnham.

The second placed competitor was vocalist Annabel Hanssen,17, a people at Alton convent, who also lives in Farnham.

Third place went to Lydia Jones, 15, who played the piano, Lydia studies at Eggar’s School, Alton and lives in Four Marks.

Also competing were Eleanor Austin, 15, from Shalden, who studies at Amery Hill School and Freya MacKenzie, 16, from Liphook, a student at Alton Convent.

Zofeyah and Annibel were delighted to have won and will now compete with winners of other local competitions across Wessex in February.  The national final of the competition will be in May.

The chairman of the panel of judges, Karen Pepper, commended the standard of the entries and the variety of the performances.  She said she and her fellow judges, Dennis Janaway and Ernest Piper were pleased that the local Rotary clubs had launched this competition in the Alton area.

The two organisers, Neil Woollacott of Alton Rotary and Lisa Hillan of Four Marks and Medstead Rotary, said they were delighted at the way local schools had responded to this opportunity and wished the winners well in the next round of the competition.  The organisers are already planning next year’s local competition.
The winners were presented with certificates by the presidents of the two Rotary clubs, Keith Arrowsmith-Oliver and Roy Roberts  The contest was hosted by Alton Colledge.  The musicians performed after the competition  to family, friends and Rotarians, thanks go to Treloar College for hosting the performance and supplying a welcome buffet.

Congratulations Annabel you have done very well against stiff opposition

Annabel Hanssen, a worthy vocalist, who won the local competition went forward to the District Competition where she was placed first and will go forward to the regional competition which will be held in Taunton.
If Annabel is successful at the regional competition she will take part in the national final in May.
